Put a free HMO Article 4 checker on your site
Your visitors type a postcode and see straight away whether it's inside an HMO Article 4 area, with the date and the council's own source. It covers every council in England, including the 79 that aren't in the government's national data.
- Free, two lines of code
- Answers from every council's own page, checked monthly
- No cookies, no ads

Add it to your site
Paste this where you want the checker to appear. It fits the width of your page and grows to fit the answer.
<div data-kerbio-a4 data-theme="auto"><a href="https://kerbio.co.uk/article-4/">HMO Article 4 checker by Kerbio</a></div> <script src="https://kerbio.co.uk/embed/a4.js" async></script>
Can't add scripts? Use a plain iframe
Some website builders only allow iframes. This version works anywhere, but it won't resize to fit the answer.

Who it's for
Terms of use
- Free to use on any website, commercial or not.
- Keep the "HMO Article 4 checker by Kerbio" link visible and unchanged. That link is the only thing we ask for.
- Don't change, hide or re-label the answers, and don't use the checker to collect or copy our data in bulk. If you need the data itself, see our open data or ask us.
- After an answer, the checker shows a link to the full detail on Kerbio, an optional email alert if that council's HMO rules change, and one line about Kerbio's Chrome extension.
- Answers are general information, not legal or planning advice. Visitors should always confirm with the council before they buy or convert.
- We may update or withdraw the checker. It's provided as is, with no guarantee it will always be available.
Privacy
No cookies and no advertising or third-party tracking. When a visitor checks a postcode, their browser sends it to two public services, postcodes.io (to find the council) and the government's planning.data.gov.uk (for the Article 4 areas), to work out the answer; Kerbio doesn't store it.
We count how the checker is used: how often it loads and how often its buttons are used, per site (the name you add above, if any, and the website address it sits on). We store only those totals: no IP addresses, cookies or identifiers.
If a visitor chooses to sign up for an alert, their email address and the council are sent to Kerbio, used only to tell them about changes to that council's HMO rules, and deleted when they unsubscribe. Full details are in our privacy notice.
